Housing in Downtown San Rafael

Downtown is the heart of our local community. We believe that new, infill housing that is walkable to our Downtown will bring greater vibrancy and constant energy to the Fourth Street corridor. The Residences at Fourth & Grand is an investment in this vision. Once constructed, we will welcome new residents to shop at our small businesses, dine at our restaurants, and make the Downtown part of their daily lives.

The Residences at Fourth & Grand would transform three vacant, underutilized Downtown properties located at 420 Fourth Street, 450 Fourth Street, and 1010 Grand Ave. Highlights of the proposal include:

• 35 new, for-rent apartments

• Mix of 2 BR, 1 BR and Studios

• 10% Below Market Rate units

• Street beautification of prominent pedestrian intersection

The project has been submitted under the new housing legislation, known as Senate Bill 35. The process will allow the housing units to be constructed sooner, bringing new residents into Downtown San Rafael.
